Social Section AGM: Looking Back and Looking Ahead

The recent Social Section AGM proved to be a useful and engaging meeting, with plenty of discussion and a real sense of enthusiasm from those who attended. It was encouraging to see so many people willing to share ideas, offer support, and get involved in helping the Social Section continue to thrive.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the successes of the past year. Particular praise was given to last year’s programme of events, with special mention of the very first Afternoon Tea, held last June. This new event was extremely well received and marked a welcome addition to the Social Section calendar.

There was, however, some disappointment expressed at the low number of paid-up members. This highlights the importance of encouraging wider participation and support, so that future events can continue to be organised and enjoyed by all.

The AGM was followed by a delicious fish and chip supper, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Clare and Tash once again worked their magic in the kitchen, cooking both cod and seabass to perfection. The meal was a real highlight of the evening and rounded off the AGM on a high note, giving people time to relax, chat, and continue conversations in a more social setting.

Overall, the AGM was a positive and productive evening, combining reflection, honest discussion, and optimism for the year ahead. With continued enthusiasm and increased support from members, the Social Section is well placed to build on its recent successes and develop even more enjoyable events in the future.

The Return of The Turkey Supper: A Wonderful Evening to Remember

After a hiatus of many years, The Turkey Supper made a very welcome return this Christmas — and what a success it was. The much-loved event brought people together once again for an evening filled with great food, festive spirit, and plenty of laughter.

Guests were treated to a delicious three-course Christmas dinner, followed by cheese and chocolate mints, all expertly cooked by the fantastic catering team, Clare and Tash. Their hard work and attention to detail were evident in every course, and the meal was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended. The non-cooked elements of the evening were equally well organised, thanks to the dedication and careful planning of the Social Section Committee, who ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish.

The atmosphere on the night was enhanced by the beautiful table decorations created by Barbara. Her festive touches transformed the room and helped set the perfect tone for a truly special occasion, adding warmth, colour, and a real sense of Christmas cheer.

A raffle was held during the evening and proved to be a great highlight, generating plenty of excitement and contributing significantly to the overall fundraising total. Thanks to the generosity of those who attended, a fantastic amount of money was raised — a wonderful outcome and a testament to the community spirit behind the event.

Most importantly, The Turkey Supper was a great time for all involved. It was a joy to see people reconnecting, sharing stories, and enjoying each other’s company after such a long break from this traditional event. The success of the evening was down to the combined efforts of everyone involved — from the organisers and volunteers to the caterers and guests themselves.

The return of The Turkey Supper was truly something special, and we hope this marks the beginning of many more festive gatherings to come.

Opening of the New Pavilion Steps – Presidents Day

The Social Section was delighted to see the official opening of the new pavilion steps at Presidents Day. This project was made possible thanks to a successful “Sponsor a Step” fundraiser, which raised the funds through seven very generous donations.

It was wonderful to see the finished steps in use and to celebrate what can be achieved through the support and generosity of our members and friends. The new steps are a lasting improvement to the pavilion and something the whole club can be proud of.

Congratulations and sincere thanks to everyone who contributed — a great example of the Social Section helping to make a real difference.
